of two returning starters, Montalvo ranks second among returning players
in scoring, having averaged 9.1 points per game as a sophomore during
the 2002-2003 season......Topped all returning players with 28
three-point field goals last year.....Scored in double figures 13 times
last season, with a career high of 23 against Rice, 21 in one game against
Centenary, and 20 in the other against the Gents.......Scored in double
figures in UTPAs first four games last season, six of the first
seven, and the final two contests.....Saw action in 26 of 30 games as
a freshman during the 2001-02 season..... Made six three-point
field goals without a miss and scored a sesason-best 18 points to lead
the Broncs to a victory at Portland.....Made four three-pointers in
the second half, the last accounting for UTPAs final three points
as the teams headed to overtime deadlocked at 68...Connected twice more
in OT, the final shot bringing the Broncs from behind to tie the game
at 80 with 38 seconds left, setting the stage for the winning basket...
Redshirted at Texas-Pan American during the 2000-01 season......Starred
at LA JOYA HIGH SCHOOL, where he was named District 30-5As
Most Valuable Player, while earning All-Region, All-Valley and All-Area
honors as a senior...Had his best season as a senior, averaging 22.5
points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game
Was
named Sophomore of the Year and was a member of the All-Defensive Team
as well.......A two-sport athlete at La Joya High School, lettering
in both basketball and track and field
Graduated in the
top 15 per cent of his class.
