BRONCS HOST MONTERREY TECH IN EXHIBITION OPENER
EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's men's basketball team will
open their 2003-2004 season with an exhibition game against Monterrey Tech Tuesday
evening. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse, following the Lady Bronc
volleyball match against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The Broncs have opened the season against Monterrey Tech in each of the last
two seasons. Texas-Pan American defeated the Borregos, 94-44 two years ago,
and won again last year, 93-59.
"It's good to get an opportunity to be on the floor against different competition," said UTPA Head Coach Bob Hoffman. "It will give us a chance to see what our strengths and weaknesses are, so we can go back and work on them."
Hoffman feels that Monterrey Tech is an ideal first opponent. "They're very disciplined, and they do a very good job of trying to run their offense and executing the things that they do," said Hoffman. "Any time we get a chance to play in front of a crowd, have whistles blowing, and wear uniforms, it gives us a chance to see who will play well. We have a great relationship with the people at Monterrey Tech. They're really trying to make basketball a big thing in Monterrey, and they do a great job promoting basketball."
The Broncs will host Houston Quest in their second and final exhibition
game Saturday evening.
