EDINBURG, TEXAS-The University of Texas-Pan American's basketball teams will host their second doubleheader in five days when they play back-to-back games at the UTPA Fieldhouse Saturday evening.

The Broncs will host Texas-Arlington Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Broncs will host St. Edward's in the first game of the doubleheader, which will begin at 5:00 p.m.

Texas-Pan American's men's team will take a 1-1 record into Saturday night's game. The Broncs are coming off a 90-50 victory over Texas A&M-International, in which junior guard Ray Castillo (San Antonio, TX/South San Antonio HS/Temple College) made eight of 11 three-point shots, tying him for second best on the all-time list at UTPA. His eight treys were one short of the record nine made by Brian Merriweather at New Mexico December 8th, 1998, and he tied Merriweather, who made eight on three other occasions. The Broncs made 16 shots from three-point range. That was one short of the record of 17 at Texas Tech December 17, 1998.

UTA is 0-2. The Mavericks dropped their first two games of the season, losing at Texas Christian last Saturday evening and at New Mexico State Tuesday night. The Mavericks were picked to finish first in the Southland Conference in this year's coaches' poll, and they were picked to tie for the top spot by the league's sports information directors.

"Texas-Arlington is a very good team," said UTPA Head Coach Bob Hoffman. "They're athletic and talented, Coach (Eddie) McCarter does a good job, they played in two tough places, and they played New Mexico State very tough. They can get to the rim, and we have to try to stop them from penetrating. It will be a very exciting game."

The Lady Broncs are coming off an 84-55 victory over Texas A&M-International Tuesday evening. With a 3-0 record, Texas-Pan American is off to its best start since becoming an NCAA Division I school in 1986.

St. Edward's is 0-4. The Hilltoppers are coming off a 75-71 overtime loss at Midwestern State Tuesday night. Jennifer Knight leads SEU, averaging 20.8 points per game.

"St. Edward's has some good players," said UTPA Head Coach DeAnn Craft. "We'll have to do a good job of defending against them."

The Broncs will return to action when they host the Southwest Assemblies of God Monday evening, while the Lady Broncs visit the Wildcat Classic at Kansas State next weekend
