Immediate Release: Wednesday, September 11, 2002 KSOX TO BROADCAST ALL MEN’S, SELECTED WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GAMESEDINBURG, TX-For the third consecutive season, AM 1240-KSOX Monster Sports Radio will broadcast all of The University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s basketball games. In addition, for the second consecutive season, KSOX will also broadcast selected Texas-Pan American women’s basketball games. The announcement was made by UTPA Director of Athletics William J. Weidner and KSOX General Manager Lance Hawkins. All of UTPA‘s men’s basketball games, at home and on the road, will be broadcast. The Broncs are coming off their best season in 12 years after posting a 20-10 record last season, and will play 11 regular season home games in 12 dates (including one exhibition game), while participating in three tournaments. KSOX plans to broadcast six women’s games.
Tentative plans call for KSOX to air the November 27th
women’s game against Angelo State, the December 14th game
against Northern Arizona, games against Air Force January 9th
and New Mexico State January 18th, and games against
Louisiana-Lafayette February 3rd and Incarnate Word February
25th. The NAU game will take place at the South Padre Island
Convention Center, and the January 18th game against NMSU
will be broadcast from the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico
prior to the men’s game against the Aggies. The other four women’s
broadcasts will originate from the UTPA Fieldhouse. The men open the regular season at the South Padre Island Roundball Invitational Tournament November 22nd and 23rd and those games will be KSOX’s first men’s broadcasts. The broadcast schedule includes all three of UTPA’s tournaments, the opener at South Padre Island and tournaments at Hofstra November 30th and December 1st and at Hawaii December 27th-30th. It also includes road games at Air Force, Saint Louis, Kansas State, Southern, Lamar, Baylor, Centenary, Texas Southern, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Savannah State and Morris Brown. The South Padre Tournament includes 2001-2002 NCAA Tournament participant Tulsa, and two of the teams at Hawaii’s Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic, Western Kentucky and the host Rainbow Warriors, also made the NCAAs last season. All of the home games will be broadcast, including visits from Rice, Mississippi Valley State, Southern, Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne, Savannah State, Centenary, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

as we look forward to an exciting season of Bronc and Lady Bronc
basketball at UTPA. All of our fans throughout the region will continue
to have the opportunity to follow the excitement of UTPA basketball as
both programs play impressive and challenging schedules this season.”
