BRONCS 10TH AFTER FIRST ROUND AT FAIRWAY CLUB INVITATIONAL

LINCOLN, NE-After the first round of play Monday, The University of Texas-Pan American's men's golf team is in 10th place at the 14-team Fairway Club Invitational at the Firethorn Golf Course.

The Broncs shot a team score of 306, which places them two strokes behind ninth-place Wyoming.

Iowa State leads with a score of 289, followed by Illinois State and Oklahoma City at 295, host Nebraska at 298, Northern Iowa at 300, Akron at 301, Drake at 302, and Southwest Missouri State at 303.

Following the Broncs are Army and Troy State at 307, Loyola Marymount at 315, and Creighton at 323.

Senior Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) led the Broncs, shooting a first-round score of 75, good for a tie for 20th. Senior Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) is tied for 32nd at 76, senior John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) is tied for 41st at 77, and freshman Colin Norris (Calgary, AB/Cochrane HS) and sophomore Craig Berger (Wetaskiwin, AB/Wetaskiwin HS) are tied for 47th at 78.

The tournament will conclude Tuesday.
