Little Rock, Arkansas - Texas-Pan American fell one shot short of passing
Sam Houston State at the Lindsey Collegiate Classic. The Broncs shot 318-301-328
for a 947 to finish 15th. UTPA is back in action, April 5-6 at the Hal Sutton
Intercollegiate in Brosier, Louisiana.
Arkansas-Little Rock shot 289-291-300 for an 880 to move from third to winning
the tournament by seven strokes over Mississippi. Rounding out the top five
were New Mexico State (297-282-316=895), Louisiana Tech (299-295-310=904) and
Jacksonville State (284-294-326=904).
Individually, Nick Mackay (Jacksonville State) beat Patrick Sullivan (Arkansas-Little Rock) in a sudden death playoff to win. Mackay shot 68-68-79 while Sullivan shot 70-70-75 to deadlock at 215. Rudy Celedon (Sr./Edinburg, Texas/Edinburg North HS) shot 73-71-79 and finished tied for 13th at 223. It was his third straight top 13 finish.
"The guys battled throughout the entire tournament," said Head Coach Drew Scott. "We hung in there on a really challenging day. There was a strong wind the whole day and it got colder as the day went on. This is the 3rd straight top 13 finish for Rudy and his fourth straight Top 20 placing. He has been playing well. I was very pleased to see John Huerta (Jr./Alice, Texas/Alice HS) playing with more consistency."
