BRONCS FINISH 14TH AT FRED MARX INVITATIONAL
MONROE, LA-The University of Texas-Pan American's men's golf team finished 14th at the 14-team Fred Marx Invitational Tournament, hosted by Louisiana-Monroe at the Bayou DeSiard Country Club.
The Broncs shot a final-round score of 317 for a 54-hole total of 949, leaving them 11 strokes behind Centenary.
Middle Tennessee State shot a final-round score of 296 and won the tournament with a three-round total of 889. The Blue Raiders were followed by host ULM at 896, Stephen F. Austin at 897, Texas State-San Marcos at 905, McNeese State at 908, Troy State at 914, Nicholls State and Northern Iowa at 919, Jackson State at 925, Louisiana Tech at 926, Birmingham Southern at 932, and Western Illinois at 937.
Senior Paul Manganilla (Carrollton, TX/ Carrollton HS/Navarro College) shot a final round score of 79 for a 54-hole total of 231, and finished in a tie for 30th place. Senior Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) shot a 78, while sophomore Craig Berger (Wetaskiwin, AB/Wetaskiwin HS) shot a 76, and both finished with three-round totals of 236 and tied for 51st. Freshman Colin Norris (Calgary, AB/Cochrane HS) shot an 84 for 246 and finished 70th, while senior John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) shot an 84 for 258 and finished 74th.
"Craig played well today," said UTPA Head Coach Drew Scott. "Each day, we had some decent scores, but we didn't play that well as a team. We'll go back home, get back to work, and hope to improve at our next tournament."
The Broncs will return to action at the Crown Colony Classic October 13th.
