UTPA TO BE ON GOLF CHANNEL FRIDAY

EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's golf teams are scheduled to receive national exposure tomorrow, Friday, June 27th.

The Broncs and Lady Broncs will be among the featured teams when the Golf Channel presents a one-hour special on the National Minority Golf Championships Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. Central Time.

Texas-Pan American's women's team was the Women's Division I champion at this year's National Minority Championships, which were held at the Professional Golfers Association's North Course at Port St. Lucie, FL during the first weekend of May. The men's team finished fourth at the NMGC. Freshman Stefanie Maynard (Pflugerville, TX/Pflugerville HS) was the women's medalist, while junior Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) tied for sixth in the men's competition.

"It's great for our teams to be on national television, people through the whole country will have the opportunity to see them," said UTPA Head Women's Coach Barb Odale. "Last year, we were on, and I had people come up to me and say they saw us on national TV. Last year, after they saw the show, our team was motivated to make the tournament again. This year, since we won, it will be a better selling point. It's great exposure, and I'm excited about it."

The Golf Channel is available on both Time Warner Cable Television and satellite TV in the Rio Grande Valley.
