BRONCS 6TH AT SQUIRE CREEK INTERCOLLEGIATE

CHOUDRANT, LA-The University of Texas-Pan American men's golf team finished sixth at the 16-team Squire Creek Intercollegiate, hosted by Louisiana Tech at Squire Creek.

The Broncs shot a final round score of 311 for a 54-hole total of 914, leaving them 15 strokes behind the winner, McNeese State.

Boise State was second at 907, followed by Sam Houston State, Nebraska and Stephen F. Austin at 910. Following the Broncs were Louisiana-Monroe at 920, New Orleans at 927, Samford at 929, Air Force and Nicholls State at 930, Centenary at 944, Birmingham Southern at 947, Louisiana Tech at 958, and Jackson State at 963.

Junior Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) led the Broncs, shooting a final-round 77 for 227, good for a tie for 13th place. Junior Paul Manganilla (Carrollton, TX/Newman Smith HS/Navarro College) shot a 74 for 228 and a tie for 16th, junior Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) shot 80 for 230 and a tie for 21st, freshman Craig Berger (Wetaskiwin, AB/Wetaskiwin Composite HS) shot 80 for 233 and a tie for 28th, and junior John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) shot 81 for 238 and a tie for 46th.

The tournament concludes the Broncs' action for the fall. They will return to action at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate February 17th and 18th, 2003.
