BRONCS 6TH AFTER FIRST DAY AT MOE O'BRIEN MEMORIAL

LAKE CHARLES, LA-The University of Texas-Pan American men's golf team is in sixth place after the first day of action at the 13-team Moe O'Brien Memorial Invitational, hosted by McNeese State at the Lake Charles Country Club.

The Broncs shot scores of 295 and 306 for the first two rounds, giving them a 36-hole total of 601, placing them five shots behind fifth-place Cameron.

The host Cowboys lead the tournament with a score of 578, followed by Louisiana-Monroe at 582, Southwest Texas State at 587, Oklahoma Christian at 592, and Cameron at 596. Following the Broncs are Nicholls State at 603, Stephen F. Austin at 604, Navy at 605, New Orleans and Centenary at 607, Louisiana Tech at 609, and Northeastern State at 612.

Junior Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) led the Broncs, shooting scores of 69 and 75 for 144, and placing him fifth after the first two rounds of play. Junior Paul Manganilla (Carrollton, TX/Newman Smith HS/Navarro College) shot 77 and 73 for 150, freshman Craig Berger (Wetaskiwin, AB/Wetaskiwin Composite HS) shot 74 and 77 for a total of 151, junior John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) shot 75 and 81 for a total of 156, and junior Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) shot 78 and 88 for 166.

The tournament will conclude Tuesday.
