BRONCS 15TH AFTER FIRST DAY AT BEARKAT CLASSIC
HUNTSVILLE, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American men's golf team
is in 15th place after the first day of action at the 17-team Bearkat
Classic, hosted by Sam Houston State at the Waterwood National Country
Club.
The Broncs shot first-day scores of 322 and 315, giving them a 36-hole
total of 637, one stroke behind Louisiana Tech. Oklahoma City leads
the tournament with a score of 580. OCU is followed by Western Illinois
at 583, the host Bearkats at 595, McNeese State at 604, Louisiana-Monroe
at 611, Yale at 613, Southwest Texas State at 614, Stephen F. Austin
at 615, Southwest Missouri State at 616, Nicholls State and Oral Roberts
at 620, and Oakland and Army at 634. Following the Broncs are eastern
Illinois at 639, and the Yale White team at 666.
Junior Paul Manganilla (Carrollton, TX/Newman Smith HS/Navarro College)
led the Broncs, shooting scores of 79 and 78 for 157 and a tie for
39th place. Freshman Craig Berger (Wetaskiwin, AB/Wetaskiwin Composite
HS) was next, shooting 81 and 77 for 158 and a tie for 47th. Junior
Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) shot 83 and 77 for 160
and a tie for 57th, junior Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) shot
80 and 83 for 163 and a tie for 65th, and junior John Huerta (Alice,
TX/Alice HS) shot 82 and 83 for 165 and a tie for 72nd.
The tournament will conclude Tuesday.
