BRONC GOLFERS 22ND AFTER 1ST ROUND AT FURMAN GREENVILLE, SC-The University of Texas-Pan American men's golf team is in 22nd place after the first round at the 22-team Furman Intercollegiate at the Furman University Golf Course. The Broncs shot a first-day score of 322, placing them three strokes behind Appalachian State, and two shots behind Western Carolina. Virginia Tech is in first place with a score of 290. The Hokies are followed by the host Paladins at 291, Coastal Carolina at 293, Francis Marion at 296, East Carolina at 297, Memphis at 298, Purdue and Wofford at 299, North Carolina-Greensboro at 302, Charleston Southern, Marshall and Elon at 303, Old Dominion at 304, Virginia at 306, Winthrop at 307, Tennessee-Chattanooga at 313, The Citadel at 315, and Davidson and the Furman B team at 317. Junior Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) led the Broncs with a score of 79, tying him for 77th place. Junior Paul Manganilla (Carrollton, TX/Newman Smith HS/Navarro College) was next at 80 and a tie for 86th, freshman Craig Berger (Wetaskiwin, AB/Wetaskiwin Composite HS) shot 81 and tied for 95th, and juniors Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) and John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) each shot 82 and tied for 98th.
