BRONC GOLFERS 19th AFTER 2ND ROUND AT FURMAN

GREENVILLE, SC-The University of Texas-Pan American men's golf team is in 19th place after the second round at the 22-team Furman Intercollegiate at the Furman University Golf Course.

The Broncs shot a second-round score of 310 Saturday, 12 strokes better than their first round Friday. As a result, they moved up three places and are six strokes behind the Furman B team entering Sunday's third and final round.

Virginia Tech is in first place with a score of 579. The Hokies are followed by the host Paladins at 580, Purdue at 584, Coastal Carolina at 589, Francis Marion at 592, Wofford at 594, Old Dominion at 598, North Carolina-Greensboro at 600, Virginia at 601, Winthrop at 602, East Carolina at 603, Memphis and Elon at 604, Charleston Southern at 605, Marshall at 608, Davidson at 612 and Tennessee-Chattanooga at 625. Following the Broncs are The Citadel at 633, Appalachian State at 642, and Western Carolina at 643.

Junior Paul Manganilla (Carrollton, TX/Newman Smith HS/Navarro College) led the Broncs with a second-round score of 75 for a total of 155, tying him for 63rd. Juniors John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) and Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) were next. Freshman Craig Berger (Wetaskiwin, AB/Wetaskiwin Composite HS) shot 79 for 160 and a tie for 89th, and junior Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) shot 79 for 161 and a tie for 97th.

The tournament will continue conclude Sunday.
