BRONC GOLFERS FINISH 19th AT FURMAN

GREENVILLE, SC-The University of Texas-Pan American men's golf team shot their best round of the tournament Sunday, and finished 19th at the 22-team Furman Intercollegiate at the Furman University Golf Course.

The Broncs shot a final-round score of 303 Sunday, seven strokes better than their second-round score Saturday, and 19 shots better than their first-round score Friday. They finished with a 54-hole total of 935, two strokes behind the Furman B team.

Virginia Tech won the tournament with a score of 869. The Hokies were followed by the host Paladins at 873, Purdue at 877, Virginia at 883, Coastal Carolina at 885, Francis Marion at 886, Charleston Southern at 890, North Carolina-Greensboro and Wofford at 895, Memphis at 896, Old Dominion at 897, East Carolina at 901, Winthrop at 904, Elon at 912, Marshall at 915, Davidson at 924, and Tennessee-Chattanooga at 930. Following the Broncs were The Citadel at 936, Western Carolina at 949, and Appalachian State at 950.

Junior Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) led the Broncs, shooting a final-round score of 72 for a 54-hole total of 233 and a tie for 75th place. Freshman Craig Berger (Wetaskiwin, AB/Wetaskiwin Composite HS) shot a 74 for 234 and a tie for 77th, junior Paul Manganilla (Carrollton, TX/Newman Smith HS/Navarro College) shot an 80 for 235 and a tie for 81st, junior John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) shot a 78 for 237 and a tie for 84th, and junior Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) shot a 79 for 238 and a tie for 90th.

The Broncs will return to action April 7th at the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic.
