BRONCS SIXTH AFTER FIRST DAY AT DIET PEPSI SHOCKER CLASSIC
WICHITA, KS-The University of Texas-Pan American men's golf team is in sixth place after the first day of action at the 12-team Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic at the Reflection Ridge Golf Course.
The Broncs shot scores of 308 and 305 for a total of 613, leaving them two shots behind Air Force. The host Shockers are in first place with a score of 584, followed by Louisiana-Monroe at 600, Oklahoma City at 603, and Missouri-Kansas City at 608. Following Texas-Pan American are Drake at 616, Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State at 618, Stephen F. Austin at 625, Evansville at 636, and Army at 640.
Junior Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) led the Broncs, shooting scores of 73 and 75 for a 36-hole total of 148. He is tied for sixth place. Freshman Craig Berger (Wetaskiwin, AB/Wetaskiwin Composite HS) shot 77 and 76 for 153and is tied for 22nd, junior Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) shot 78 and 78 for 156 and is tied for 35th, junior John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) shot 80 and 76 for 156 and is also tied for 35th, and junior Paul Manganilla (Carrollton, TX/Newman Smith HS/Navarro College) shot 90 and 81 for 171 and is 63rd.
The tournament will conclude Tuesday.
