Zhanel (Ennis, TX/Ennis HS) lost their first round match to Jonas Hoglund and Joe Olfindo of Texas-San Antonio, 8-2, and will begin consolation round play Saturday.

Sophomores Filip Koziell (Calgary, AB/Bishop Carroll HS) and Jeremy Salvo (Coquitlam, BC/Centennial Secondary), won their first round doubles match against Ryan Davies and Dave Knaszak of Texas Tech, 8-4, then fell to ninth-seeded Daniel Scholten and Fabrizio Sestini of Texas Christian, 9-7. In singles, Koziell defeated Jason Gould of Baylor, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, and then lost to Pete Stroer of Texas, 6-4, 6-2. Salvo got a first round bye, and then lost to Ricardo Almeida of Texas-San Antonio, 6-4, 7-6, before dropping his consolation match to Loren Collins of TAMU-CC, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. Steil got a first round bye, and then lost to third-seeded Zoltan Papp of Baylor, 6-2, 6-0, before falling to Michael Tarkowski of Louisiana-Lafayette, 6-2, 6-1. "We played OK, but it's a tough tournament," said UTPA Head Coach Todd Chapman. "We played well in some matches, and not so well in others. Filip and Jeremy played well in their doubles matches against a good team from Texas Tech and against the ninth-seeded team from TCU."

Mangleschots will play in the consolation round of singles and Porter and Zhanel in the consolation round of doubles Saturday.
