BRONCS ADVANCE AT ITA

FORT WORTH, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American will have a representative on the final day of action at the Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Regional Tennis Tournament at Texas Christian University.

Junior Tom Mangelschots (Limburg, Belgium/KA 2 HS) won both of his consolation matches Saturday to advance to the consolation finals. Mangelschots defeated Mario Augustine of Arkansas-Little Rock, 6-0, 6-2, and then downed Jonas Hoglund of Texas-San Antonio, 6-3, 6-2. He will play in the consolation semi-finals Sunday.

Texas-Pan American's other representative Saturday was the doubles team of freshmen Nik Porter (Tunbridge Wells, England/Bennett Memorial School) and D.J. Zhanel (Ennis, TX/Ennis HS). They dropped their consolation doubles match to Alastair Jenkin and Ryan Haymond of Texas, 8-3.

"Tom played well today," said UTPA Head Coach Todd Chapman. "He was aggressive, had good mental focus, and came out ready to play. Tom had two good victories, and I'm happy for him."

Mangelschots will play twice Sunday if he wins his consolation semi-final match.
