PORTER EARNS SLC POW AWARD

EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis team has received its first Southland Conference tennis honor of the season.

Freshman Nik Porter (Tunbridge Wells, England/Bennett Memorial School) has been Southland Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week.

Porter won all four of his matches for the Broncs last week. He won twice in at number six singles, and twice while paired with senior Matt Gower (Somerset, England/Kings of Wessex HS/St.Francis-PA) at number three doubles. Texas-Pan American defeated Abilene Christian, 7-0, and lost to Tennessee Tech, 5-2.

"Nik had a good weekend," said UTPA Head Coach Todd Chapman. "He's a freshman who has talent, and he's picked up his game since he arrived here. We'll count on Nik a lot this year. For a freshman to be honored this early in the year says a lot about Nik and the potential he has."
