TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN MEN'S TENNIS ADVANCES THREE IN SINGLES AT LAMAR
BEAUMONT, TX-Three members of The University of Texas-Pan American's men's tennis team have advanced in first round singles action at the Brentwood Intercollegiate Invitational at the Lamar University Tennis Center.
Freshman Sebastian Aspillaga (Santiago, Chile/Lycee Francaise de Chili/Louisville) won his first two matches in flight B, and advanced to the bracket's singles finals. Sophomore Oliver Steil (Brunssum, The Netherlands/AF North International School) and sophomore Rehman Esmail (Coquitlam, BC/Dr. Charles Best Secondary/North Carolina State) each lost their first round flight C match, but advanced in consolation play.
In flight D, freshman Gary Bianco (Annecy, France/Lycee Berthollet) won his first round match, while junior Armando Martinez (San Antonio, TX/Canyon HS/West Texas A&M) lost in the first round and will play in the consolation bracket. Sophomore Nik Porter (Tunbridge Wells, England/Bennett Memorial School) won his first round match in flight B, then lost in the semi-finals. And senior Tom Mangelschots (Limburg, Belgium/KA 2 HS) and junior Jeremy Salvo (Coquitlam, BC/Centennial Secondary) each dropped their first two matches in flight A.
The tournament will continue with doubles. The finals are scheduled for Sunday.
