ONE CHAMPION AT LADY CARDINAL CLASSIC

BEAUMONT, TX- The University of Texas-Pan American's women's tennis team saw one player win the championship finals at the Lady Cardinal Classic Saturday at the Lamar Tennis Center. The Lady Broncs also had a championship finalist, and a consolation champion.
Alana Breen (Sr./Whistler, BC/Whistler Secondary) brought home the championship in Flight Eight singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jennifer Cline of Stephen F. Austin. Vanessa Hedinger (Fr./Therwil, Switzerland/Gymnasium Berwil) lost the championship match at Flight One singles to Neolia Surno of McNeese State, 6-1, 6-3.
Three Lady Broncs competed in the consolation finals. Julie Fife (Sr./Los Alamos, N.M./ Los Alamos HS) won the Flight Six consolation final, 6-1, 6-3, over Jenni Sandoval of Lee College. In Flight Three, Ana Pena (Jr./McAllen, Texas, Nikki Rowe HS) lost to Justine Bosloo of Southeastern Louisiana, 6-1, 6-4. UTPA's Elysia Sloan (So./Duncanville, Texas/Duncanville HS) fell in the Flight Five consolation finals, 6-0, 6-1 to Holli Readi of Louisiana Tech.
"This was a good first tournament for us," said UTPA Head Coach Eduardo Provencio. "We had a champion and a consolation champion, and all five of our players made the championship or consolation finals. This was a good experience for us, and we are really looking forward to our next competition."
