MEN'S TENNIS GOES 7-7 ON FIRST DAY AT TEXAS ARLINGTON INVITATIONAL

ARLINGTON, TX-The final day of action was rained out, after The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis team won five of 11 singles matches and two of three doubles matches on the first day of play at the Texas-Arlington Fall Invitational at the Arlington Tennis Center Friday.

In the first session of singles, the Broncs won three of six matches. Junior Jeremy Salvo (Coquitlam, BC /Centennial Secondary) defeated Ondrej Fukuala of Oklahoma, 6-1, 6-2; sophomore Oliver Steil (Brunssum, The Netherlands/AF North International School) defeated Juan Escalante of Wichita State, 6-4, 6-1; and sophomore Rehman Esmail (Coquitlam, BC /North Carolina State/Dr. Charles Best Secondary) defeated Wes Hudnall of Wichita State, 7-5, 6-2.

Senior Tom Mangelschots (Limburg, Belgium/KA 2 High School) lost to Carlo Contente of Wichita State, 6-4, 6-4; junior Sebastian Aspillaga (Santiago, Chile/Louisville/Lycee Francaise de Chili) lost to Silviu Tanasoiu of Oklahoma, 6-2, 6-4; and freshman Gary Bianco (Annecy, France/Lycee Berthollet) lost to Lee Gregg of Oklahoma, 7-6, 6-4.

In the second singles session, Texas-Pan American lost three of five matches to Texas Christian. Aspillaga defeated Andrew Ulrich, 6-2, 6-4; while Bianco defeated Craig Stopa, 7-6, 6-3. Salvo lost to Daniel Scholten, 6-4, 6-2; Mangelschots fell to Jacob Martin, 6-1, 6-0; and Steil lost to Collin Hart, 6-4, 6-4.

In the first session of doubles, the Broncs won two of three matches against Abilene Christian. Esmail and Salvo won their match, 8-6; Mangelschots and Steil won, 8-5; and Aspillaga and Bianco lost, 8-3.
