SAN ANTONIO, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's men's tennis team won a pair of doubles matches and a pair of singles matches before rain washed out the rest of the action at the Texas-San Antonio Sonterra Invitational Saturday.

Freshman Gary Bianco (Annecy, France/Lycee Berthollet) recorded two victories before the action was stopped. In the first round of consolation play, he beat Simon Boyce of St. Edward's, 6-1, 6-2. Bianco was leading in the second round of consolation play, 6-1, 6-5 when Gustavo Granem of St. Edward's retired due to an injury.

Bianco and his doubles partner, junior Sebastian Aspillaga (Santiago, Chile/Lycee Francais de Chili/Louisville) won their first match. They defeated Veal, an independent, and Pablo Sahagun of Texas-San Antonio, 9-8 (7-3) before losing to Tas Tobias and Hubert Chodkiewicz of Texas, 8-6. Junior Jeremy Salvo (Coquitlam, BC/Centennial Secondary) and sophomore Rehman Esmail (Coquitlam, BC/Dr. Charles Best Secondary/North Carolina State) defeated Guillarmi Tonelli and Vasili Borrissov of Tyler Junior College, 8-6, while sophomores Oliver Steil (Brunssum, The Netherlands/AF North International School) and Nik porter (Tunbridge Wells, England/Bennett Memorial School) lost to Jason Gould and John Reckewey of Baylor, 8-6.

"Gary is improving with every match" said UTPA Head Coach Eduardo Provencio. "He is starting to understand the game plan we have been working on for him and it's paying off."

The tournament will conclude Sunday.
