BRONCS HAVE GOOD DAY AT ITA SOUTHWEST REGIONALS

FORT WORTH, TEXAS - The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis team has one singles player and one doubles team still in the championship bracket at the Omni Hotel ITA Southwest Regionals.

In singles play, Jeremy Salvo (Jr./Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada/Centennial Secondary) won his opening match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, over Robert Kirchner of Texas-San Antonio. Salvo then beat Dimitrio Martinez of Texas Tech, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the round of 32 in the championship bracket.

Sebastian Aspillaga (Jr./Santiago, Chile/Lycee Francaise de Chili/Louisville) won his first round match, 6-2, 7-5 over Dash Connell of Texas A&M. In the second round, Aspillaga lost 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 to Ryan Hammond of the University of Texas.

In other singles action, Tom Mangelschots (Sr./Limburg, Belgium/KA 2 HS) fell in his match, 6-2, 7-5, to Brett Joelson of Texas A&M, Armando Martinez (Jr./San Antonio, Texas/Canyon HS/West Texas A&M) lost to Joe O'findo of Texas-San Antonio 6-0, 6-1, Oliver Steil (So./Brunssum, The Netherlands/AF North International School) fell to Joe Morris of The University of Texas 6-2, 6-3, Gary Bianco (Fr./Annecy, France/Lycee Berthollet) lost to Marvin Rolle of Texas A&M, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 and Nik Porter (So./Tunbridge Wells, England/Bennett Memorial School) was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by David Placensia of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

In doubles action, Rehman Esmail (So./Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary/North Carolina State) and Salvo took a hard fought 9-7 win over Robert Gallman and Andrew Ulrich of Texas Christian. The victory puts Esmail and Salvo in the round of 16.

After a first round bye, Aspillaga and Bianco dropped their second round match, 8-5 to Konstantin Haerle and Vuk Rajevac of Rice University. Porter and Steil lost in the first round, 8-3 to Dimitrio Martinez and Ryan Vogl of Texas Tech to close out doubles action.

The Broncs are back in action at the regionals tomorrow as they compete in the championship and consolation brackets.
