LADY BRONCS WIN THREE MATCHES ON SECOND DAY AT UTSA

FORT WORTH, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's women's tennis team won
three matches on the second and final day of action at the Texas-San Antonio
Fall Invitational at the UTSA Tennis Complex Friday.
In singles, freshman Vanessa Hedinger (Therwil, Switzerland/Gymnasium Berwil)
beat Felipa Figueirdo of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 6-1, 7-5 to win the Flight
1 consolation championship. Sophomore Elysia Sloan (Duncanville, TX/Duncanville
HS) won by default over Katie Koenig of Lee College in the seventh place match
in Flight 3. Senior Julie Fife (Los Alamos, NM/Los Alamos HS) lost the third
place match at Flight 4 to Massiel Martinez of Texas-San Antonio, 6-3, 6-2.
In the seventh place match at Flight 5, Senior Alana Breen (Whistler, BC/Whistler
Secondary) lost to Christina Shelly of Lee College, 6-2, 6-3. Junior Ana Pena
(McAllen, TX/Nikki Rowe HS) had to retire from her match against Felice Sanchez
of Texas A&M-CC because of injury.
In doubles, Fife and Sloan beat Viridiana Montiel and Nancy Ortiez of Laredo,
8-2 in the consolation semi-finals at Flight 2. In the consolation final, they
lost to Lana Burton and Felipa Figueirdo of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 8-3.
Pena and Hedinger defaulted both of their matches due to an injury by Pena.
The action concluded the fall schedule for the Lady Broncs.
