BRONCS LOSE IN CONSOLATION DOUBLES FINALS AT BRENTWOOD INVITATIONAL

BEAUMONT, TX—The University of Texas-Pan American men’s tennis team advanced one team to the consolation finals of Flight A doubles as the Fourth Annual Brentwood Intercollegiate Tournament concluded Sunday at the Brentwood Country Club.

Filip Koziell (So., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll HS) and Jeremy Salvo (So., Coquitlam, British Columbia/ Centennial Secondary) defeated Paul Birket and Milos Vasovic of Southeastern Louisiana, 8-4, in the consolation semi-finals.  Freshmen D.J. Zhanel (Ennis, TX/Ennis HS) and Oliver Steil (Fr., Brunssem, Netherlands/AF North International School) lost to Eric Subirats and Matt Tate of SLU, 8-1. Subirats and Tate defeated Koziell and Salvo in the consolation finals, 8-5.

“Filip and Jeremy played pretty well today, but they ran into a hot team,” said UTPA Head Coach Todd Chapman. “I think we had a pretty good tournament overall. I would have liked to see us win a few more matches, and I saw a few areas we need to work on, but it was a good experience overall.”
