BRONCS’
SALVO HONORED BY SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE
EDINBURG,
TX—For the third time this season, a member
of The University of Texas-Pan American men’s tennis team has been honored by
the Southland Conference.
Sophomore Jeremy Salvo (Coquitlam,
BC/Centennial Secondary) has been named Southland
Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Salvo won all four of his matches
last week. It was the second consecutive week in which he has won all four of
his matches, and he has now won nine matches in succession since losing at number
one doubles March 22nd.
Last Friday, Salvo teamed with freshman
Oliver Steil (Brunssum, The Netherlands/AF North International School) to defeat
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Christophe
Bergues and Oscar Roman, 9-8, then defeated the Islanders’ David Plasencia,
6-4, 6-3. Saturday, Salvo and Steil defeated Centenary’s Nathan Bridges and
Brian Roberts, 8-1, and Salvo downed Roberts in singles, 6-1, 6-1.
“I’m happy that Jeremy had the opportunity
to be honored,” said UTPA Head Coach Todd Chapman. “After he lost at Idaho
State, we had a long talk, and since
that time, he’s played the most consistent tennis he’s played in two years.
Jeremy’s peaking at the right rime, and, hopefully, he’ll carry this over into
the last few weeks of our season.”
The Broncs return to action when
they visit Rice Wednesday.
