2003 TRACK OUTLOOK: Lopez will concentrate on the hammer outdoors, and the weight throw indoors COACH’S COMMENTS: “Robert is a hard worker, and he will have a chance to set PRs and school records in his events.” 2001-02: Lopez finished third at Houston Open in the weight with a toss of 50-3 1/2. Outdoors, he won his specialty, the hammer, at the Rice Invitational with a throw of 172-5. 2000-01: He set a school record in the hammer throw with an effort of 171-7 at the Angela Procter Invitational in his first season as a Bronc, also recording a season-best 49-0 1/2 in the weight throw at the same meet. Lopez earned victories at the Javelina Relays, and the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor. PREP: Three-time Field Event Performer of the Year at Mission High School, Lopez was also named Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
