EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's track and field team will open their season when they compete at the Houston Indoor Invitational Saturday. The meet begins at 9:00 a.m. The final event, the 4 x 400 meter relay, is scheduled for 4:50 p.m.

"I'm excited, we have so many new people, this will give us a really good opportunity to judge what they're capable of doing," said UTPA Head Coach Ricky Vaughn. "Everybody's been working hard, and we're all anxious to get started."

The field will include some of the top teams in the region. "Every time we go to Houston, it's a highly competitive meet," said Vaughn. "I don't think this will be an exception. It will give our newcomers a taste of what collegiate track and field is all about."

Vaughn expects a good showing from the Broncs and Lady Broncs. "There are a few people who are ready to go out and do well, and I think we'll have a good showing," said Vaughn. "We should see several PRs (personal records), and we could even see some school records broken."

Texas-Pan American returns to action next weekend at the Houston RunSport/All-Comers Meet.
