Houston, Texas - A monster throw in the men's hammer was the main highlight of the Bayou Classic today. Isaac Ybarra (Jr./Mission, Texas/Sharyland HS) won the Hammer with a throw of 206-6. That won the meet by almost 20 feet, broke the school record by over 13 feet and was about three feet short of the U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying mark. UTPA will be at the Texas Relays in Austin, Apr. 1-3.

The Broncs finished 5th out of eight teams with 73 points. Texas State-San Marcos scored 139.50 to win by 21.50 points over Rice. Stephen F. Austin was 3rd with 108.50 points and Sam Houston State was 4th with 90 points.

On the women's side, Rice scored 130 points to win by 18 points over Texas State-San Marcos. Rounding out the top five was Sam Houston State (3rd - 91), Stephen F. Austin (4th - 76) and Texas (5th - 72.50). The Lady Broncs scored 48 points to finish 7th out of 12 teams.

"That is just an awesome performance for Isaac." Said head coach Ricky Vaughn. "He is on a roll right now. I'm looking for really big things out of him. Overall, this is the best meet that we have had all year. We had some really good performances. We had 23 PR's today and we picked up seven wins. Anytime that you get wins in a field of this caliber, your doing something right."
