HAMLET 24TH AT DRAKE RELAYS

DES MOINES, IA-Two University of Texas-Pan American student-athletes got to see the Drake Relays for the first time Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Rowena Hamlet (Mississauga, ON/Lorne Park SS) finished 24th in the 400 meter hurdles, with a time of 1:03.31. Sophomore Deneb DeLuna (Mission, TX/Sharyland HS) fouled on all three of her attempts in the shot put, and did not record a mark.

"This is only the second time this year we faced this type of competition," said UTPA Assistant Coach Marisa Robinson. "It's the first time Rowena and Deneb have been out of the state of Texas to compete this year. It was a great experience to face this type of competition. We just have to learn from our experience, and use it to improve."

Saturday, junior Hugo Cervantes (Weslaco, TX/Weslaco HS/Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) will compete in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
