LADY BRONCS OPEN AT HOME

EDINBURG, TX-With their first tournament action of the season behind them, The University of Texas-Pan American's volleyball team will open their 2003 home schedule when they play Prairie View A&M Tuesday evening. The match begins at 7:00 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

Texas-Pan American brings a 1-2 record into Tuesday's match. The Lady Broncs defeated Lehigh in five games Saturday evening at the Subway Cardinal Classic behind a record-setting performance by senior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS).

Muszynski led UTPA against Lehigh with 26 kills and 16 digs, becoming the Lady Broncs' career leader in both kills and digs. She now has 1213 kills during her UTPA career, 30 more than Tanja Thomas, who had 1183 kills and graduated in 1991. Muszynski has 1025 digs for her career, one more than Marie Velasquez, who had 1024 digs and graduated in 1996. Muszynski is also the first player in Texas-Pan American history to record 1000 kills and 1000 digs in her career.

Tuesday's match will mark the first chance for fans in the Rio Grande Valley to see the Lady Broncs this season. "It's good to play at home," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "Our fans will be there, and we want to play well at home and not have a let down. Prairie View has some good athletes, but if we play to our ability, we can compete with any team on our schedule."

After Tuesday's match, the Lady Broncs will travel to Stephen F. Austin for a tournament this weekend.
