EDINBURG, TX-Fresh off a co-championship, The University of Texas-Pan
American's volleyball team will put their five-match winning streak
on the line against an opponent they haven't beaten in three years
when they play Incarnate Word Tuesday evening. The match begins at
7:00 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
The Lady Broncs have won five matches in a row, and were co-champs
at last weekend's Lady Panther Invitational after sweeping all four
of their matches there. Texas-Pan American split a pair of matches
against Incarnate Word in 2000, and fell to the Crusaders twice in
2001. UIW brings an 8-7 record into Tuesday evening's match.
"I'm very excited," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "The
team is starting to come together. It will be a great opportunity
to play in front of our home crowd, and show everyone what we've been
working on."
The Lady Broncs also will bring an 8-7 mark into Tuesday evening's
match. "Incarnate Word is a solid team," said Thorn. "The
last time we played them, we had two close matches, but they came
out on top. We're looking for consistency, and a solid effort on our
side of the net. Anything after that will take care of itself."
Texas-Pan American will return to action when they visit Texas A&M-International
Saturday.
