EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's volleyball team made a festive evening a successful one Friday night.

The Lady Broncs defeated their alumni in an exhibition match, 30-22, 30-20 and 30-17 at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

Sophomore middle blocker Stephanie Redd (Seguin, TX/Seguin HS) led the Lady Broncs with 15 kills and a .522 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Cathi Netemeyer (Los Fresnos, TX/Los Fresnos HS/Iowa) added 13 kills, while freshman outside hitter Heather Bravo (Las Vegas, NV/Durango HS) added 17 digs. Freshman setter Karen Lyons (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial HS) had 28 assists, and sophomore setter Sandy Darway (San Luis Obispo, CA/Arroyo Grande HS) added 17.

Debbie Puente led the alums with 10 kills, Becky Boykin added 10 digs, while Lorena Lopez added 20 assists.
"It was great to play our alumni, and great to see everyone back here again," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "It was also good to see some of our players who don't get a lot of playing time do well. (Junior) Jaclyn Olvera (Lyford, TX/Lyford HS), (freshman) Elizabeth Buentello (McAllen, TX/McAllen HS) and (freshman) Kim Mora (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) all stepped in and played well. It's a different type of match. The alumni match doesn't normally have the speed you would associate with a Division I match, but the alumni always play hard."

The Lady Broncs will return to action when they host Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
