LADY BRONCS SPLIT AT ISLANDER INVITATIONAL

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American split a pair of matches Saturday at the Islander Invitational. The Lady Broncs defeated Texas Southern, 30-21, 30-18, 26-30 and 30-15, and lost to Wyoming, 23-30, 22-30, 30-28 and 14-30, at Moody Gym.

Freshman middle blocker Stephanie Redd (Seguin, TX/Seguin HS) had the finest match of her short career against TSU. Redd had 19 kills, four blocks, and hit .300. Junior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS) added 17 kills, seven digs and three blocks against the Tigers, while junior outside hitter Winker Cruz (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen South HS) had 13 kills and 12 digs as Texas-Pan American hit .243 to the Lady Tigers’ .123. Freshman setter Katie Burke (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) added 55 assists for the Lady Broncs. Orlena Evans paced TSU with 12 kills, while Natalia Harmon had 31 assists.

Muszynski had 14 kills and 15 digs for UT Pan American against Wyoming. Sophomore outside hitter Cathi Netemeyer (Los Fresnos, TX/Los Fresnos HS/Iowa) added 12 kills and 14 digs, Redd added nine kills, and Burke had 38 assists. Michele Rauter led the Cowgirls with 20 kills and 19 digs, Sara Maytorena added 15 kills, and Amy Doman had 50 assists.

The Lady Broncs are now 3-11 after splitting their two matches. TSU dropped to 1-12, while Wyoming improved to 11-2. Texas-Pan American will return to action when they host Texas-Permian Basin and Texas Christian next weekend.
