LADY BRONC VOLLEYBALL TEAM HOSTS UTPB, TCU

EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American volleyball team will play back-to-back home matches for the first time this season when they host Texas-Permian Basin and Texas Christian this weekend. The Lady Broncs will play UTPB Thursday evening, while the Horned Frogs will be the visitors on Friday night. Both matches are schedule for the UTPA Fieldhouse at 7:00 p.m.

The Lady Broncs won two out of three matches last weekend at the Islander Classic, defeating Tulsa and Texas Southern. Freshman middle blocker Stephanie Redd (Seguin, TX/Seguin HS) and junior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS) were named to the All-Tournament team at the Islander Classic. Redd hit .244, and added 38 kills and eight service aces, while Muszynski led Texas-Pan American with 45 kills and 39 digs.

"We played well last weekend," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "Stephanie and Jackie played very well, and it's the first time we've had two people on an all-tournament team since our Independent Tournament last year."

Texas-Permian Basin has compiled a 10-2 record so far in the NAIA's Red River Conference, while TCU is 6-8. "UT Permian Basin is an athletic team that has done very well in their conference in the last several years," said Thorn. "TCU is a quality program that is in a rebuilding mode this year with a new coach, who has them doing some good things. We'll have to be ready and prepared for both opponents this weekend. We have six of our next seven matches at home, so we have a great chance to get things going. We hope to get as many people as we can in the stands this weekend, and make it as tough as we can on our opponents."

After this weekend's matches, the Lady Broncs will return to action next weekend when they host Centenary October 4th.
