Release: Thursday, September 26, 2002 LADY BRONCS DOWN UTPB IN FOUR EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's volleyball team had their hitting shoes on Thursday night. The Lady Broncs had their three outside hitters combine for 61 kills, hit .318 as a team, and defeated Texas-Permian Basin, 30-24, 30-12, 30-32 and 30-14 at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Texas-Pan American dominated the first, second and fourth games and had a late six-point advantage in game three before UT Permian Basin rallied to win. Sophomore outside hitter Cathi Netemeyer (Los Fresnos, TX/Los Fresnos HS/Iowa) led the way for the Lady Broncs. Netemeyer had the best match of her short UTPA career, with 21 kills, 23 digs and a .529 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS) added 22 kills, 18 digs and hit .321, and junior outside hitter Winker Cruz (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen South HS) added 18 kills and hit .390. Freshman setter Katie Burke (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) had 60 assists, and freshman middle blocker Danielle Holthe (Covina, CA/Bishop Amat Memorial HS) added six blocks as UTPA had eight blocks and limited the Lady Falcons to a hitting percentage of .056. Jessie Burton led UTPB with 13 kills and 18 digs, while Misty Stocks had 33 assists. "UT Permian Basin is a well-coached team that plays great defense, and we had to play hard and play well to win," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "Cathi had a great match both offensively and defensively, Winker and Jaclyn both did a great job, and Katie did a good job setting. We also had one of our best matches of the season blocking. Overall, we played well, and I was glad to see us come out and play like we did." The Lady Broncs improved to 4-11 with the victory, while UT Permian Basin fell to 10-3. The Lady Broncs will return to action when they host Texas Christian Friday night at the UTPA Fieldhouse. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. VB-17-03 092602
