LADY BRONCS DOWN ISLANDERS IN FOUR

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's volleyball team didn't let a short drive to the Gulf Coast stop them from continuing their winning ways.

The Lady Broncs won their second match in a row for the second time this season, defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 26-30, 31-29, 30-22 and 30-26 at Moody Gym Tuesday night.

Junior outside hitter Winker Cruz (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen South HS) led the Lady Broncs with 19 kills, 12 digs and a .250 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS) added 18 kills, sophomore outside hitter Cathi Netemeyer (Los Fresnos, CA/Los Fresnos HS/Iowa) had eight kills, 17 digs and hit .333, and freshman setter Katie Burke (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) added 52 assists and 15 digs.

UTPA hit ..234 to the Islanders' .188, outblocked TAMU-CC 11-9, and had 67 digs to the Islanders' 59. Laney Bardin had 17 kills for Texas A&M-CC, Lauren Smith added 15, and Sarah Hill added 13.

"This was a huge win," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "They're a huge team, and we outblocked them. Winker and Jaclyn were offensive forces for us, Cathi had a very good night defensively, and we hit well as a team. We have three more matches in a row at home, and we'll be looking to keep our momentum going."

The Lady Broncs improved to 6-12 with the victory, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi fell to 6-14. The Lady Broncs will return to action when they host their alumni in an exhibition match Friday night.
