LADY BRONCS VOLLEYBALL TEAM SET TO FACE ALUMNI

EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's volleyball team will host the UTPA alumni team Friday night at 7 p.m., just hours before the UTPA basketball teams tip-off March Madness at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

"Its great to have our alumni come back," said UTPA head coach Dave Thorn. "It gives us a chance to see the people who meant so much to our program."

Among the alumni who will be playing Friday evening are Lorena Lopez, Enith Villalobos, and Debbie Puente. Lopez set the UTPA single-season record of 1,073 assists in 2000, as well recording three of the top single-match performances. Villalobos has the fourth highest dig total in Texas-Pan American history with 646. All three were seniors on the 2000 Lady Bronc squad, which finished with a team-record 19 wins.

UT Pan American has won its last two matches. They defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-1, Tuesday after sweeping Centenary at home last Friday night.

UTPA has been led by junior outside hitter Winker Cruz (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen South HS), who not only has recorded a team-best .245 hitting percentage, but also has a team-high 182 digs. Freshman setter Katie Burke (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) has 659 assists in the first 18 matches of the season, while serving up 11 aces. Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS) leads the Lady Broncs 237 kills.

Texas-Pan American will return to action when they host Texas A&M-International next Friday night.
