LADY BRONCS DEFEAT ALUMNI

EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's volleyball team didn't let the fact that Friday night's match was an exhibition match keep the evening from being an artistic success.

The Lady Broncs defeated their alumni, 30-20, 30-18 and 30-17 at the UTPA Fieldhouse, prior to Midnight Madness.

Freshman middle blocker Stephanie Redd (Seguin, TX/Seguin HS) had 13 kills, six digs, three blocks and a .455 hitting percentage to lead Texas-Pan American. Junior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS) had 13 kills and 12 digs, and junior outside hitter Winker Cruz (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen South HS) had eight kills and 20 digs . Beckie Boykin and Debbie Puente led the alumni with nine kills each, while Lorena Lopez added 23 assists.

"It was great to see our alumni come back," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "They played like I expected them to. They came out and played aggressively, and we had to play well on our side of the net to beat them. Stephanie had a good night for us, Jaclyn played well, and Winker led us defensively with 20 digs. We got the chance to try out some new things in a match situation. The alumni had a lot of good defensive players, some of the best defensive players we've ever had were on the other side. "

The Lady Broncs will take the weekend off, and return to practice Monday. They will return to action when they host Texas A&M-International next Friday night and Prairie View A&M next Saturday night on Parents' Weekend.
