Release: Saturday, October 26, 2002 LADY BRONCS DOWN PRAIRIE VIEW A&M EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's volleyball team has won four matches in a row for the first time this season. The Lady Broncs defeated in-state rival Prairie View A&M, 30-19, 30-22 and 30-10 Saturday at the UTPA Fieldhouse for their fourth consecutive victory. The Lady Broncs cruised in the first game, holding the Lady Panthers to a -.025 hitting percentage. PVAMU came back in the second game, battling Texas-Pan American on virtually even terms until the Lady Broncs ran off eight consecutive points to take a 2-0 lead. UTPA hit .680 in their third game victory. "We did what we had to do against an athletic team," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "We were aggressive in the first game, and we had a little bit of a letdown in the second. In the third game, we played better on our side of the net. We did a better job of serve receive, and we did a better job of ball control and playing on our side of the net in general." Junior outside hitter Winker Cruz (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen South HS) had 16 kills and hit .353 to lead the Lady Broncs. Freshman middle blocker Danielle Holthe (Covina, CA/Bishop Amat Memorial HS) had eight kills, while freshman middle blocker Stephanie Redd (Seguin, TX/Seguin HS), sophomore outside hitter Cathi Netemeyer (Los Fresnos, TX/Los Fresnos HS/Iowa) and junior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS) each added six. Freshman setter Katie Burke (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) had 38 assists. Jonette Ozen led PVAMU with seven kills, Tameika Jones added five and Jamesha Sutton had four. The Lady Broncs improved to 8-12 with the victory, while Prairie View A&M dropped to 9-15. UTPA will return to action when they visit Texas A&M-Kingsville Tuesday night. VB-26-03 102502
