LADY BRONCS WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT

KINGSVILLE, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's volleyball team's winning streak has reached five matches.

The Lady Broncs won at Texas A&M-Kingsville, 30-28, 30-24, 26-30 and 30-26 Tuesday night, earning their sixth win in seven tries.

Junior outside hitter Winker Cruz (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen South HS) had 19 kills, 19 digs and hit .385 to lead the Lady Broncs. Freshman middle blocker Stephanie Redd (Seguin, TX/Seguin HS) added 13 kills, while junior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS) added 12 kills and 13 digs. Junior Jena Rae Rosales (McAllen, TX/McAllen HS) added 13 digs, while freshman setter Katie Burke (Georgetown, TX/ Georgetown HS) had 45 assists.

Kellie O'Leary led TAMUK with 16 kills, Stephanie Briscoe added 13, Melanie Biggerstaff had 12 and Kathy Stephenson added 11.

"We were tenacious, and we played well defensively," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "Even though we didn't have our best night offensively, we overcame that with our defense, and with tough serving. Our serves forced them into some mistakes. They have a great home gym, and their crowd is really loud. Any time you can go into a hostile environment and get out with a win, it's good."

The Lady Broncs improved to 9-12 with the victory, while Texas A&M-Kingsville fell to 11-15. Texas-Pan American will return to action when they visit Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M this weekend.
