LADY BRONCS WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT

HOUSTON, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American cruised to their sixth consecutive victory, defeating Texas Southern, 30-18, 30-16 and 30-23 at the Health and Physical Education Center Friday night.

Freshman middle blocker Stephanie Redd (Seguin, TX/Seguin HS) led the Lady Broncs with 10 kills and a .211 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Winker Cruz (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen South HS) added 7 kills and 10 digs, sophomore outside hitter Cathi Netemeyer (Los Fresnos, CA/Los Fresnos HS/Iowa) had six kills and hit .556, and senior outside hitter Cynthia Kasper (Austin, TX/Connally HS) added five kills and hit .625. The Lady Broncs hit .330 to TSU's .095. LaQuana Morgan led the Tigers with seven kills, while Safaiara Davis added six.

"We came out very aggressively, and we played very hard," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "We're playing well right now, and it's good to see our hard work in practice paying off."

The Lady Broncs improved to 10-12 with the victory, while Texas Southern fell to 2-23. Texas-Pan American will visit Prairie View A&M Saturday.
