Release: Friday, November 29, 2002 LADY BRONCS LOSE TO LONG BEACH STATE LONG BEACH, CA-The University of Texas-Pan American volleyball team lost their second match on their California road trip to the 10th-ranked team in the nation Friday night. Long Beach State downed the Lady Broncs, 30-21, 30-17 and 30-15 in a first round match at the Baden Thanksgiving Classic at The Pyramid. Junior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS) led the Lady Broncs with 14 kills, while junior outside hitter Cathi Netemeyer (Los Fresnos, CA/Los Fresnos HS/Iowa) added 11. Junior Jena Rae Rosales (McAllen, TX/McAllen HS) had nine digs, and freshman setter Katie Burke (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) had 29 assists. Brittany Hochevar had 38 assists, 15 digs and eight kills for the 49ers, while Lindsay Phillips had 14 kills. "We played hard, and we played the number 10 team in the nation," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "Jaclyn played very well, and we competed and fought hard the entire match. We didn't convert all of our opportunities, and Long Beach State is a very good team, but we played hard. We were without (junior outside hitter) Winker Cruz (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen South HS), and our two seniors, Cynthia (Kasper, Austin, TX/Connally HS) and Jessica (Lawson, West Hills, CA/Covina HS) really stepped it up."With the defeat, UTPA fell to 16-17. Long Beach State improved to 27-3. The Lady Broncs will return to action at the Baden Thanksgiving Classic Saturday, facing San Jose State at 4:00 p.m. and UC Irvine at 7:00 p.m. VB-41-03112902
