LADY BRONC VOLLEYBALL TEAM SIGNS CHRISSIE CARRIGAN

EDINBURG, TX- The University of Texas-Pan American volleyball team has signed its first recruit for the fall.

Chrissie Carrigan, a 5-11 outside hitter from Mount Douglas Secondary School in Victoria, British Columbia, has signed with the Lady Broncs., She will enter as a freshman, with four years of eligibility.

Carrigan earned first team All-Province honors, was named first team All-Vancouver Island, and earned first team All-Tournament honors at the Provincial Championships when her team defeated Prince George for the title in three games. She led her team in digs as both a junior as a senior, and has her team's top passing average. She also played for the Gold Medal Mount Douglas School club team, which won the provincial championship and finished second in Canada. A versatile athlete, Carrigan also earned All-League honors as a power forward in basketball, and threw the javelin for the track and field team.

"Chrissie is a strong, physical player who has great ball control skills as far as passing and defense are concerned," said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. "I expect her to come in and add depth to our outside hitting position, and compete for playing time, especially when our senior outside hitters graduate. Chrissie is a competitor, and she's the kind of athlete you love to coach. She's a very powerful hitter with a lot of physical tools who will come here and help us."
