LADY BRONCS ADD EXHIBITION GAME
EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball
team has added an exhibition game.
The Lady Broncs will play Houston Elite next Friday evening, November
7th. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Three Texas-Pan American players played for the Houston Elite team.
Freshmen Alexis Coleman (Missouri City, TX/Elkins HS), MaHogany Daniel
(Corpus Christi, TX/Carroll HS) and Azzie Knox (Temple, TX/Temple HS)
played for Head Coach Howard Randle.
Houston Elite has three players who played collegiate basketball at
Louisiana Tech, two of whom helped the Lady Techsters to NCAA championships.
"They are very tall," said UTPA Head Coach DeAnn Craft. "They
have 6-2 and 6-4 players across their front court, and their guards
are both former starters at Louisiana Tech. They also have some players
who played in the Big 12, as well as a former Alabama player, Brandi
Jones from Texas A&M, and a former Houston player. They will bring
10 players, and they are very talented."
Houston Elite will be a formidable opponent, which is
why Craft said she wanted the Lady Broncs to play them. "Our schedule
has us playing against highly-skilled teams, and it defeats the purpose
for us not to play a skilled team, and get a false sense of what it's
going to be like," said Craft. "In addition, with MaHogany,
Alexis and Azzie having played for them, it's good to continue that
relationship. They will play a structured game, but playing them will
allow us to see if we can guard skilled people."
