LADY BRONCS FACE HOUSTON ELITE
EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's women's basketball
team will open their 2003-04 season when they host Houston Elite Friday
evening. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Former Louisiana Tech star Debra Williams scored 18 points and added
six steals to lead the Elite to a 76-64 victory at Jacksonville State
last Friday night. Keisha Lewis, another former Lady Techster, had 12
points and 13 rebounds, while former Houston Cougar Andi Jackson added
16 points.
"We anticipate an up-tempo game against a group of highly skilled
former Division I players," said UTPA Head Coach DeAnn Craft. "This
game will help us identify areas which we need to continue to build
upon. We'll need to match their defensive intensity, and we hope to
be able to play hard, while focusing our energy so that it creates an
advantage for us."
Three Texas-Pan American players played for the Houston Elite AAU team.
Freshmen Alexis Coleman (Missouri City, TX/Elkins HS), MaHogany Daniel
(Corpus Christi, TX/Carroll HS) and Azzie Knox (Temple, TX/Temple HS)
played for Head Coach Howard Randle before joining the Lady Broncs.
Texas-Pan American will open the 2003-2004 season at the Air Force
Classic November 21st.
