EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's women's basketball team has added its first recruit for the fall of 2004.
Kathy Guin, a 5-5 guard from Guthrie, Oklahoma and Guthrie High School, will join the Lady Broncs next fall. She is a freshman, and will enter with four years of eligibility.
Guin was nominated for the prestigious McDonald's All-America Team. A first team All-Conference player as a junior, she was named Player of the Year in Logan County and made the All-Tournament Team at tournaments at Deer Creek and Chisholm. Guin was named Player of the Year at Guthrie High School, and was Guthrie's Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore.
Guin averaged 17 points, 4.7 assists, three steals and four rebounds per game. A good student, she was also named to the National Honor Roll.
"Kathy is the complete prototype Division I guard," said UTPA Head Coach DeAnn Craft. "She is strong and quick, can shoot three-pointers from deep range, and can penetrate and pull up. She'll dog you to death on defense, has great penetration skills, can make the perfect pass, and is flat-out legitimate. Kathy is a tremendous sign for us. She can help take us to another level."
