EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's women's basketball team
is enjoying the best start in school history in spacious new team facilities.
The women's basketball team opened their new locker room and new office suites
this season, and the new facilities have been a welcome addition.
The locker room has roomy individual stalls for each student-athlete. There's
also a new team meeting room, and the office has a reception area next to the
new head coach's office.
"The new facilities are a big plus," said UTPA Head Coach DeAnn Craft.
"With the new facilities, we now have access to a first-class locker room,
team room and office suite. It's important in recruiting, it shows us that the
administration stands behind our program, and it also gives us a competitive
advantage and levels the playing field with our opponents."
UTPA's student-athletes are very appreciative of the new facilities. "It's
really nice, it's great for all of the players," said junior guard Jennifer
Piwonka (Louise, TX/Louise HS). "It's great to have a really nice locker
room, and a team room where we can hang out before or after practice. Our locker
room is the best of the best-it's comparable to anything I've seen at other
universities. It really goes along with what we're trying to do here at UTPA
in building a winning program, and it also helps in recruiting."
"At The University of Texas-Pan American, our athletic department
remains vigilant in regards to our efforts to establish a nationally-respected
and competitive NCAA Division I athletic program," said UTPA Director of
Athletics William J. Weidner. "The new facilities for our women's basketball
program are further evidence of that commitment. We are very excited about the
future of Lady Bronc basketball and look forward to continuing our efforts to
support our coaches and student-athletes as we work together to establish a
solid foundation for the future."
