TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN IN THE HUNT FOR SCHOOL RECORD
Contact: Mike Bond (mibond@panam.edu), UTPA Assistant Sports Information Director, (956) 381-2240

Edinburg, Texas - Texas Pan American still has a shot at the school record for most wins in a season. The Lady Broncs are 10-13 and need three wins to break the school record for victories in a season. UTPA was 12-12 back in 1984-85.

The next hurdle to overcome in pursuit of that record is Louisiana-Lafayette. The Ragin Cajuns are 11-10 and will be in the UTPA Fieldhouse, Monday, February 16. The game is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. ULL is led by Anna Petrakova who is averaging 18.9 points and 10.1 rebounds a game while shooting 51.6% from the floor and 82.1% from the free throw line.

"Well, they are an upper echelon Sun Belt Conference team." Said head coach DeAnn Craft. "I think they are extremely talented in the interior. It's going to be a challenge for us to defend and execute against that. This is a really good game for us since we feel we didn't play our best basketball against them at their place. We'll need Amanda Carlow (Sr./Pine Ridge, S.D./Northeast JC) and Dawnne Cheadle (Jr./Roswell, N.M./Seminole State College) to come out and play hard against them. With their zone defense, we will need someone to step up and hit the outside shots that we are going to get."

The Lady Broncs have won three of their last four games paced by Carlow. She is averaging 19 points and 4.25 assists while shooting 50.0% (23-of-46) from the floor, 57.9% on three-pointers (11-of-19) and 79.2% from the line (19-of-24). Cheadle is averaging 13 points while Kristi Dudley (Fr./Cedar Hill, Texas/Cedar Hill HS) has 9.0 points and 7.8 rebounds a game.

"This team has been finding a way to win." said Craft. "When our back is against the wall, we always have someone come out and surprise us with their play. It'll be real interesting at who is going to be the surprise player this game. Amanda has just really taken over this team the past few weeks. She has taken charge as a senior should. She has always been a tremendous distributor but she has now become more of a scoring point guard. Amanda just seems to get the key big bucket or start big offensive runs for us.

"Well first of all you have to have a unselfish chemistry as a basketball team." Said Craft. The kids aren't caught up in playing all the minutes. They take great pride when their name is called for an assignment. We have kids that take pride in their role whether that is rebounding, being a stopper or providing offensive firepower. They encourage each other to get the job done."
