LADY BRONCS SIGN MAHOGANY DANIEL

EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball team has signed their first recruit for the 2003-2004 season.

MaHogany Daniel, a 5-10 forward from Corpus Christi, Texas and Mary Carroll High School, has signed with the Lady Broncs. She will enter UTPA in the fall of 2003 as a freshman, and will have four seasons of eligibility.

Daniel averaged 14 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists for Carroll as a junior, while making 58 per cent of her shots from the field. She made the All-Tournament Team in all three tournaments that Carroll has participated in this season, and she was named first team All-District and All-Region last year. Daniel played for Head Coach Letty Canales, one of the most-respected coaches in the state. Canales' program is considered one of Texas' elite high school programs.

"It's great to sign MaHogany, she will help us immediately on the perimeter, and bring a lot of athleticism to our team," said UTPA Interim Head Coach Tracy Anderson. "She's a great rebounder, a good slasher, she really gets to the glass and is a strong defender. She is a slashing, attacking type of player, and we expect her to be someone who can come in and help us defensively, and give us an offensive weapon as well."
